Caroline decided to crawl today. Caroline saw the dog chewing on a bone and she crawled over to the dog. It happened just like that-she decided to crawl and then went about 4 feet. It was quite a feat. She was very proud of herself.

Caroline also has some new teeth coming in. They're all over the place too. I saw a couple new ones poking through on the top and there are some swollen areas on her lower gums. In another month or so, she will probably have a mouth full of teeth.

We have internet now-finally!

Caroline is sitting up a lot now. She can get into a sitting position from the crawling position. She isn't exactly crawling, though she has certainly learned how to get where she wants to go. She has also discovered how to hit her pacifier against the crib railing. She likes the noise it makes, but when she drops it, and eventually she does, she screams.

We have been experimenting with food lately. Caroline does not like baby food very much. She eats it reluctantly, then reaches for my food. This evening I decided to pass on the baby food and give her regular food. She really liked the green beans, pizza crust (now you know what I ate!), mashed banana (though not too mashed), and yogurt. It was much easier allowing her to feed herself instead of struggling with keeping control of the spoon and actually trying to get food in her mouth. Well, it's late, and Caroline is still up. I need to get her in bed now, but I will be updating regularly from now on.

We found Bailey, our cat

Not everyone knows this fact, but Bailey took off in the middle of our move. We have been searching for her for five days now. We found this evening before heading out to re-flyer the neighborhood. She seems well, though a little hungry. We are so happy to have her home!

Caroline's 7 month appt

Normally, there are no shots with the 7-month appointment, but Caroline received 2 today, because she missed her 6-month shots. She is doing very well, sitting and pushing herself up. She is now 27.5 inches long and 16.5 lbs. Her size is average, according too the charts. I asked the doc whether the percentiles take into account whether the baby if formula-fed or breastfed. Apparently they do not consider these factors. A quick google search has shown me that breastfed babies grow faster in the first 2-4 months than their formula-fed couterparts, but then they slow down for the the next 6 months. The WHO is working on creating growth chart for breastfed babies because there are none at the point.

We spent the July-4 weekend moving into our new apartment. We aren't quite moved in though. Thursday, our refrigerator will be delivered and we hope to have moved our furniture this weekend. Caroline is not taking the move very well at this point. Her schedule has been interrupted and she does not have the familiar comforts to which she is accustomed. Her toys, her exersaucer, and most of her other things are at the new place. Her crib is still in the old apartment. Anyhoo, things just aren't the same for her and she is having bouts of colic or crying fits. We hope that the rest of our move finishes up this weekend so that life can get back to normal.

Conjunctivitis

Caroline has conjunctivitis now (commonly known as pinkeye). The pediatrician is ordering some prescription eye drops for her, so I don't need to take her in or anything. Conjunctivitis is highly contagious and can be caused by virus or bacteria. She is otherwise doing well and should fully recover soon.

We will start moving today. I'm sort glad Caroline isn't very mobile yet, because it will make the whole moving process easier. When I get our new address, I will post it here. When I find the cable for the camera, I will post pictures of our new place, so everyone will kow where we live. I hope to find the camera cable soon, but I think that it's lost amidst the packed boxes. I will probably find it once I have unpacked. I will have a backlog of photographs to post later.

odd baby names

I don't understand the baby-naming trend in which last names become desirable first names. What happens when baby Madison grows up and meets a handsome young man named John Madison. Does she get married and change her name to Madison Madison? I guess Maddie Madison sounds better. I knew someone named Will Williams in high school. I always thought the name was unusual due to the last name, but no one really questioned it at my school. Anything goes these days. Our daughter's name (Caroline) is ranked 74 on the Social Security's top 100 list for 2004. It seems to be rising quickly in popularity though.
